Serum Chemerin and Apelin Levels in Obese Children: Relation to Endothelial Function and Inflammation from a Cross-sectional Case–Control Study

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is a global threat with subsequent health problems among which and most important cardiovascular problems. It now claimed that adipokines secreted by adipose tissue are responsible for such consequences. Newly discovered chemerin apelin under investigation their link related co-morbidites. AIM: The aim of the present study was to assess serum levels in obese children explore correlation between these two biomarkers inflammatory as well endothelial cell activation markers PATIENTS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional case control comprised 45 pre-pubertal aged (6– < 12) years old both sexes (22 males 23 females), addition matched age sex lean serving controls (21 24 females). Serum chemerin, apelin, ICAM-1, E-selectin hs-CRP were measured controls. RESULTS: Obese showed higher ICAM-1 than Chemerin significant correlations all parameters except age. Anthropometric revealed even after adjustment while only Multiple regression analyses hs -CR , dependent variables BMI Z score ,age, sex, independent effect on increased . CONCLUSION: Elevated may serve indices ongoing obesity-related disorders children.
